Give to Campus Information

The University of Michigan is committed to transforming our students’ education by extending academic excellence from the classroom into real-world experiences that develop a global purview and a creative, entrepreneurial mindset.

Campus Information serves the needs of University of Michigan students, faculty, staff, alumni, prospective students, and visitors by providing accurate and timely information about campus organizations, services and events. As the University of Michigan's primary centralized information source and referral service, we aim to inform and assist patrons, so they can best utilize resources available for both their academic and co-curricular activities.

Originally opened in 1980, The Campus Information Centers (CIC) were developed in response to a lack of centralized information at the University.  People were frustrated with going to the wrong place, not getting the information needed, and discovering too late that the University had a service or facility that could have helped them.  These problems were aggravated by the University’s large size and decentralized nature. Although the University of Michigan is still large and decentralized, we work diligently to serve as a starting point for all by accurate referral to resources and information sharing.

Much has changed in the 35+ years we have been operating. We expanded our one information desk from just being in the Michigan Union to now being in Pierpont Commons and The Michigan League. And rather than remaining just a physical center for information, we have expanded our services to provide more outreach through online offerings so that questions can be answered without calling or coming to one of our desks. Perhaps the most special aspect of Campus Information is the emphasis we place on utilizing the voices of our 30+ student Information Assistants' to deliver relevent information and perspectives. These students are the ones who will answer your chat requests, emails, phone calls, in person questions, and even write content for this site.

The University’s largest-ever fundraising campaign, the first in which Student Life has participated with articulated goals, is thoughtful, visionary, and transformative – worthy of the name “Victors for Michigan.” Student Life is committed to student learning and the development of the whole student. We facilitate transformation and enrich education through new opportunities for learning and development; fostering an environment for the success of all community members; developing a deeper understanding of ourselves and others on an inclusive campus; enabling students to practice positive physical, emotional, social, intellectual, mental, and spiritual health; preparing students to succeed during and after their university experience; resolving complex issues through advocacy, services, and compliance; and providing programs and facilities for the physical, social, psychological, academic, and recreational needs of the campus community.

To do all this, and much more, Student Life needs your support—be a Victor for Student Life. Be a Victor for Michigan.
